Going for Height 7/2008

I’ve been throwing cylinder after cylinder this weekend going for height. (Pictured above are some of the cylinders. I thought they looks so pretty drying in the sun and took a picture.) I’ve learned to throw cylinders and lots of them because when you master this very basic shape the possibilities are limitless.

So, I’m practicing pulling clay for height. I almost have the knack except accounting for shrinkage during the glaze firing! What seemed to be a nice tall cylinder before firing, came out to be a surprisingly shorter piece than I had anticipated. Ack!
