It was May 20th when I finally sat down behind my pottery wheel for this throwing season.
It takes me four to six weeks to create pottery from a ball of clay to a glazed piece.
My newest addition to my standard mugs are my dragonfly mugs which came about accidentally!
The first mug I made last summer suffered a deep gouge from my fingernail. 🙄
Thinking the freshly made gouged mug was beyond repair, I “saved” it by pressing my dragonfly stamp into and over the gouge!
I added more dragonflies around the base of the mug to make it look as if I meant to do that. 😁
People LOVED it!
So, I made more this year!
Pictured below is the progression of a dragonfly mug: starting with a very wet just off the wheel mug to semi-dry mug with dragonfly imprint and handle then glazed bisqueware mug and finally the finished glazed piece

Pottery, however, is not for the faint of heart.
Unforeseen challenges such as this hairline crack is the frustrating nature of pottery rendering this particular dragonfly mug irregular and not appropriate to sell due to safety concerns. Hairline cracks have a tendency to crack further under extreme temperature changes in microwaves and dishwashers.
So, I will add this imperfect mug to my cupboard for my morning coffee.
My first harvest from our garden: cilantro, nasturtiums (first year growing them) and volunteer lettuce!
The cilantro will go into a dehydrator that I bought last year. In years past, I tried drying herbs naturally but quickly ran out of space. Other times, I attempted to dry herbs in the oven and the herbs shriveled up into a dark crumbly mess.
The volunteer lettuce and nasturtiums will go into a light summer salad this weekend.

As with gardening and pottery, life has many challenges but teach valuable lessons about imperfections, patience, perseverance and acceptance.
My brother is now in Hospice at home where he is resting comfortably surrounded by family.
. . .grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
I love this, the accidental art! lol The dragonfly motifs are beautiful.
So glad to read your brother is comfortable. 🙂
