Watching Clay Dry

Is watching clay dry as exciting as watching paint dry or grass grow?

Believe it or not I have done all three.

WATCHING CLAY DRY

Clay crocks, pet dishes and bowls air drying. The clay needs to be dried just right in order to clean up the bottoms of the crocks, pet dishes and bowls.  Not too wet.  Not to dry.

My newest creation: Out of a slab of clay, I molded these bowls over a plaster mold. Today, these dried fairly quickly.

WATCHING GRASS GROW

While the clay dries, I look out to our yard. The lush green grass (and clover) inspires me to practice taking pictures of, well, grass. A neat photographic exercise!

Grass is grown really fast these days!

More grass and clover…growing!

WATCHING PAINT DRY

Recently, I repainted a room which meant I watched paint dry.  Much too my horror, however, the paint ended up a different shade than when I started!  I even waited 24 hours to make sure the paint was totally dry because, you know, wet paint looks different than dry paint. Right?

After 24 hours of watching paint dry, the paint was a different shade from when I started!
After 24 hours of watching paint dry, the paint was a different shade from when I started! Back to the store to buy another can of paint to paint the WHOLE room over again.  Luckily, the second coat dried the same color!

So, is  watching clay dry as exciting as watching paint dry or grass grow?  I don’t know about exciting but a lesson in patience is certainly worth while!
