This Week’s View

Survived weeding over the weekend!

Flowers are thriving!

However, I noticed the geraniums leaves had turned red.

I have never seen that before.

Thanks to the internet, I learned the red leaves can be a symptom of over watering.

We certainly had a wet and soggy week last week!

In-between weeding, I was able to fire up the kiln.

I threw these mugs and bowls four weeks ago.

It has taken that long for these pieces to air dry slowly.

Slow drying prevents cracks so the humidity we have had was very helpful for the pottery.

Pictured on the left are the air dried pieces. At this stage, the dried clay is called greenware and is very fragile. The first firing is called a bisque fire where the greenwear undergoes physical and chemical changes in preparation for glazing.

Pictured on the right is the result of a 12 hour bisque fire. At this stage, the fired clay is called bisqueware and now these pieces are ready to glaze.

We are coming up on another weekend.

Memorial Day weekend here.

No weeding for me.

Have a blessed weekend!
