The Sciurus carolinensis, otherwise known as the gray squirrel, is THE reason why I cannot grow sunflowers!

While I was enjoying my morning coffee on my back porch, I spotted the little varmint in the garden. And grabbed my camera, of course!
The squirrel discovered that it could leap into my little fenced off sunflower area in a single bound.
In the past, I have been able to grow a plethora of sunflowers with much success and glee!

This year?
Apparently not.

So, as I sat and enjoyed my last cup of coffee, the squirrel enjoyed my last sun flower.

Your last sentence with the picture made me smile

This is the reason we also do not have sunflowers. 🙂

You would think the squirrel would have waited until the sunflowers produced sunflower seeds. 😄
They are eyeballing our tomatoes now! 😳

Oh no! And of course they won’t eat the entire tomato- they will only take 1 bite out and just waste the rest 🤦🏾♀️

I haven’t always been successful at gardening. I had a vegetable garden that did very well until the rabbits found it. They dug under the fence, ate the marigolds, and were unfazed by anything else I tried to discourage them. One day my neighbor told me he saw a rabbit heading toward my garden carrying a bottle of salad dressing. 🤦That was the end of my vegetable gardening phase.

I think I lost my sunflowers to the same creature this year, though I never saw it. I know I did lose tomatoes that way as they brought them up from the garden on to the deck railings, with only one bite taken out!!! Arrg.
I hope we both have better luck next time!

I would say gardening is for the birds but I think gardening is for the squirrels! LOL
Yes! Here’s to better luck next year.
