A November Road Trip

Last week we took a trip to the mountains of Western North Carolina home to my side of the family.

I wish I could say the trip was for pleasure but the goal was to attend to family estate business.

Though my North Carolina elders have all passed, we were left to sort through contents left behind in a storage unit: memories and history packed in boxes and wrapped in moving blankets.

Our destination took us up and up into the great Carolina mountains along the Cullasaja River Gorge.

We stayed in a cabin along a serene lake nestled within a steeply wooded forest. Fall color has just passed its peak but beautiful nonetheless.

After two days of sorting, we packed what we could in the car and parted with what we couldn’t take with us.

Overall, we had a pleasant trip.

When we left for our trip, the leaves on the trees here were just starting to turn but came back to snow!

Some memories never leave your bones.

They become part of you.

  1. I’m sorry the trip wasn’t for fun. But glad you were able to see some beauty in nature while you were there. And glad your IT guy 😉 got your picture software back on track. Lovely pictures. Thank you for sharing 🤗
