December on My Back Porch

What better way to welcome the month of December? Snow! Squirrel was quite happy to see me set out peanuts! Just as I turned to go into the house, squirrel leapt off the tree branch and bounded toward the pile of peanuts on the back porch. The birdbath, filled with leaves and water, froze over... Thanksgiving

Believe it or not, tender sadness & sparkling joy are able to mingle. Surprisingly, bittersweet ache and hearty laughter can fit together like a hand in a glove. ~Linda Stoll Broken-Hearted Holdiays

Snapshots: A Family Story

My family elders have all passed away leaving me with boxes and boxes and boxes of old photographs, letters and memorabilia. I'm left piecing our family history together from boxes, something my elders said they would do one day. Photographs tell a story, unlock memories, and reveal connections to people, places and time. While sorting... Continue Reading →

Creatures In My Back Yard

All creatures great and small. From my back porch, I see them all! Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. ~ John Muir

Meanwhile . . .

Finally decided on a "white" paint and painting our kitchen! Gone are the days when we could paint a room in ONE day! LOL Our peas are coming up nicely! Covered with a light mesh cloth to deter the rabbits from feasting on the tender little shoots; although, I don't think rabbits will be a... Continue Reading →

Cats! Rabbits! And Foxes! Part 2

Cat Number 1 and I have recovered from the other morning. The weather is blissfully warm and sunny today! We were sitting on the back porch when I saw something furry out of the corner of my eye. First, I thought it was a squirrel BUT it was too big to be a squirrel. Then,... Continue Reading →

Cats! Rabbits! And Foxes! Oh My!

Spring is here! Flowers are popping. The trees are budding. Weeds have gone wild. In between rain showers, I've planted peas, radishes, lettuce and spinach in our garden.  Because we have three wild very hungry rabbits in our neck of the woods, we have had to add fencing to our raised garden beds and cover others with... Snapshots: A View of a Story

Photographs invoke a story to be told. One can travel into the lives and times of people and places especially of those people we hold so dear. Memory is a living thing ~ it too is in transit. But during its moment, all that is remembered joins and lives ~ the old and the young,... Continue Reading →
