Happy New Year!
A new week!
A new day!
Hooray!
I made no New Year’s resolutions. In fact, a long time ago I resolved not to make New Year’s resolutions. Instead I decided to make daily resolutions or, as some may call them, daily affirmations. Daily resolutions are much less daunting. The intent is for the day rather than for a WHOLE year. Think about that . . .a WHOLE year. That is 365 days!
I do set long term goals such as eating healthier, exercising more, getting more sleep and not swearing (as much) but these goals need tweaking through the year because, as we all know, LIFE happens – circumstances beyond our control; so daily resolutions can be tweaked to suit fluid life situations.
Tweaking daily resolutions requires learning how to forgive yourself when a resolution has not been met. It is far too easy to fall into a cycle of beating yourself up because you think you have “failed” to met your goal for the day. I’ve learned to give myself a break. Nobody is perfect. I focus on the positive aspects of my day. I list them in my journal or in my head before my head hits the pillow at night. There is always something to be thankful for.
I guess what I am trying to say is:
- take one day at a time
- forgive yourself
- be grateful
- tomorrow is a new day ~Hooray!
