Today’s View

Firing my kiln and throwing mugs on my back porch today after two days of rain.

My pottery wheel on the left and my Vulcan* kiln on the right loaded with 25 glazed pieces.

I started the kiln at 7 a.m. this morning.

Anticipating a 12 hour firing which means it will take that long for the kiln to reach temperature at cone 6 (~2200F / 1200C). Once the kiln reaches the cone 6 temperature, it shuts off and that is when magic takes place.

So, as I kiln sit I am throwing mugs today. (Kiln sitting. Think baby sitting, pet sitting but more boring. I mean the kiln just sits there and at certain times I turn a knob to increase the temperature.)

From my pottery wheel, I notice a bunch of commotion coming from the garden.

Rabbits.

In years past we have had ground hogs, raccoons and squirrels.

Always, squirrels.

But this year we have quite a few Rabbits.

It all started with one!

The freshly thrown mugs looked so pretty drying in the sun.

Each mug embellished with a swirl inside . . . that is . . . if I remember to add a swirl.

My goal today is to live a state of grace and lightness.

I will not invite struggle or drama.

I will say yes more and smile often. ~Kimberly Blaine

  1. I haven’t seen a rabbit in our yard for six or seven years I’d guess. We do enjoy a visit from deer now and then, and a fox occasionally. As you say, there are always squirrels! Lately we’ve heard a barred owl in the little strip of woods behind our house. He/she is new to us. We love wildlife sightings! (However, if we had a vegetable garden, I’m sure we’d feel differently!)

      1. Oh dear!! My sister-in-law not only has a mesh fence around her garden, but a retractable roof, to keep out the blazing sun when the temp hovers in the low 100s. (They live in Southeast Texas.) No critters are going to get to her precious produce! I suppose you could go that route, Paula!
