Notes From My Back Porch

Summer is here!

Things are heating up on my back porch . . . in between rain showers, of course.

I’ve been working on dragonfly mugs for what seems like a long time.

Now they are glazed and ready to fire.

As I was rolling my kiln onto my back porch from the garage, the cover for the kiln lid fell off and broke. 😱 A huge chunk of the kiln brick fractured and crumbled.

Broken kiln brick can cause brick debris to stick to the melting glaze creating unwanted bumps, lumps and textures.

After some thinking and cleaning up I decided the firing will continue!

Meanwhile, we had contractors in the house this week.

We have always done home improvement jobs ourselves for convenience and cost.

Now that we are a wee bit older, we decided to hire someone to do what we couldn’t do.

Husband and I found having contractors in the house nerve wracking!

My tomato plant is blooming on the back porch.

And the volunteer squirrel’s tomato plant is thriving in the garden.

Yay!

It is summer!

  1. I never like having contractors in the house too. And I am sure Mr squirrel is happy that his tomato plant is thriving 😁
The dragon fly mugs look real nice.
