I have been asked by several people about making slow feeder bowls for their pets.
I didn’t know how to make them and felt a bit intimidated because there is not much information on how to make a slow feeder.

But when my Grand-dog asked me to make one for him, I just couldn’t say no!
A slow feeder is a bowl with groves.
The slow feeders help your pet eat slowly rather than gulping food quickly.
Benefits of a slow feeder:
- may aid in the prevention of gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV). “Gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), also known as gastric dilation, twisted stomach, or gastric torsion, is a condition that affects dogs in which the stomach becomes overstretched and rotated by excessive glass content.” ~Wikipedia
- may aid in the prevention of bloat
- less likely to choke
- better digestion
- portion control
After careful thought and planning, I was finally able to make one!

I made two.
One for just-in-case one of the two slow feeders didn’t work out.
So, grand-dog is now the proud owner of one and I have one available for sale in my Etsy shop.
I will be making more through the summer.
Stay tuned!
