Glazed,Ready and Rain

Over the weekend, I started glazing some small bowls, cups and spoon rests that I made and bisque fired over the past few weeks.

My glazing techniques vary from dunking pots into a bucket of glaze to brushing glaze onto pots.

For my pet dishes and bowls, I stamp a paw print in the center of each bowl using a black or brown under glaze then hand paint the rim. These little dishes will be dipped into a clear glaze.

As I was setting my finished pieces on the shelves, I found the lighting very striking.

Warm. Soft. Bright and bold highlighted by shadows.

So, I snapped. 😉

I planned to load my kiln this evening but it started to rain.

You see, my Back Porch Studio is on my back porch – open to all the elements of Mother Nature.

My kiln seeking refuge under the blue tarp.

Loading the kiln will have to wait.

Meanwhile, I will enjoy the much needed rain we are having today.

(Despite ALL the ceramic water bowls I have made for our kitties, The TONKA dump truck is THE preferred water bowl around here.)

“For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain.”

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

  1. I just love this post!! And that picture is beautiful, you captured the shade with the light perfectly. 🥰

Tucker has decided that no matter how many bowls of water I leave outside for him, he must drink from the saucer underneath the giant pot into which I planted that tomato plant. The water that comes out of the part is all icky and dirty and green and that’s the water he wants to drink. 🤷‍♀️

But I like your Tonka truck much better. 😀
