You’re Fired!

My latest batch of pottery pieces have completely air dried. At this stage, the dried clay is called greenware. This stage is also when the clay is most fragile.

Over the weekend, I fired the greenware in the first of two firings.

The first firing is called a bisque fire where the greenwear undergoes physical and chemical changes in preparation for glazing. At this stage, the fired clay is called bisqueware.

Pictured below is a before (dark brown) and after (pink) picture.

BEFORE: Greenware AFTER: Bisqueware

Over the next two weeks, I will be firing, glazing, firing and glazing 70+ pieces!

And in between glazing and firing, I will be photographing new items for my BackPorchStudio shop.
