I have had my hands busy over the last two weeks.
Glazing and firing and photographing.
Glazing and firing and photographing and throwing.
Glazing and firing and photographing.
Thank goodness it is Friday and I am in a nice in between place today!
Life as a potter, among other hats I wear, can look quite chaotic.
Not glamorous as one would see on social media, believe me! 😂
Pictured below are some behind the scene shots of my back porch studio…all work benches covered!
Cynthia, my kiln, has been going non-stop.
It seems I am learning her quirks all over again since her return from the repair shop in June.
Quirks?
Yes, quirks.
Cynthia’s quirks are hot and cool spots. (Much like me 😄)
In Cynthia’s case, she fires cool on the bottom half and fires hot on the top half.
Knowing that, I can place pottery with glazes that fire cool on the bottom half and place pottery with glazes that fire hot on the top half.
In addition to learning how newly fixed Cynthia fires, I’m learning about a new glaze.
Below is a picture of the new glaze on three clay bodies and the various results that have left me on tenterhooks . . .
So.
Yeah.
Hello September!
Thanks for the reminder
that change can be beautiful!
Love it
