As summer comes to a close, so does a chapter in my life. My childhood home will be empty for the first time since we moved in forty seven years ago. Though my Mom and Dad passed away some time ago, my little brother continued to live in the house where he raised his two... Continue Reading →
Notes From My Back Porch
Summer is here! Things are heating up on my back porch . . . in between rain showers, of course. I've been working on dragonfly mugs for what seems like a long time. Now they are glazed and ready to fire. As I was rolling my kiln onto my back porch from the garage, the... Continue Reading →
No Tomatoes!
Because . . .Squirrel! Well, the cayenne pepper did NOT discourage the squirrel from eating every single tomato. Except THIS one. Now, the squirrel is after the zucchini 😳
August Notes
I've been behind the camera for a few weeks photographing new pottery I made over the summer and behind the computer writing item descriptions. The scene of Elaine Benes writing for the J. Peterman Catalog comes to mind. The Urban Sombrero, Seinfeld, Season 8 Episode 1 "It combines the spirit of old Mexico with a little... Continue Reading →
This Week’s View
Survived weeding over the weekend! Flowers are thriving! However, I noticed the geraniums leaves had turned red. I have never seen that before. Thanks to the internet, I learned the red leaves can be a symptom of over watering. We certainly had a wet and soggy week last week! In-between weeding, I was able to... Continue Reading →
Meanwhile . . .
Finally decided on a "white" paint and painting our kitchen! Gone are the days when we could paint a room in ONE day! LOL Our peas are coming up nicely! Covered with a light mesh cloth to deter the rabbits from feasting on the tender little shoots; although, I don't think rabbits will be a... Continue Reading →
Weekend In The Weeds
JULY UPDATE!!! In May I blogged about this weed that took over the garden and I mistakenly identified the weed as heal-all. The plant that over took the garden beds this spring is NOT heal-all at all. It is Red Dead Nettle instead! For more information about Dead Nettle scroll to the bottom of my... Continue Reading →
What The Hawk?
One of our many visitors this summer! One of the reasons I love throwing on our back porch! I had my hands in clay. Grabbed my camera and took a shot! My camera is a little muddy .
Distracted While Throwing . . .
. . .because EVERYTHING is in bloom! Always take time to smell the flowers.
Ta-dah!
The sunflowers made it despite the critters of early spring and summer. This pot houses my 3rd round of sunflowers. I decided not to transplant them to the back yardand keep them close to my back porch. Glorious results! Close up of the potted sun flowers next to the back porch. Such a sunny delight!... Where The Wild Things Are Part III
I spent the day weeding yesterday. Wore myself out and ended up going to bed rather early. I woke up to an array of wild life this morning! A praying mantis hanging from a sunflower bloom munching on a wasp. A very hungry caterpillar feasting on what is left of dill. Luckily, I harvested the... Continue Reading →
Sunflowers Maybe
Who doesn't love sunflowers? Creatures big and small love sunflowers! I started planting sunflowers early spring all to have a creature eat every last sunflower seed! I suspect a squirrel. Photo by Juhasz Imre on Pexels.com I planted another round sunflower seeds. Thrilled to see them sprout to six to twelve inches in height! Yeah!... Continue Reading →
Where The Wild Things Are Part II
Life has completely turned upside down since the changing of the clocks back in March of 2020. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the dinosaurs returned. Today, the dinosaurs have, indeed, returned much to our grandson's delight! I am delighted the dinosaurs prefer lettuce over sunflowers!
Checking In
Happy whatever day it is! With dear husband working from home since mid-March, it is as if every day is Saturday. Not that he works from home on Saturdays but he is home. Every day. Both of us in the house through the week has taken some getting used to. I think we will survive.... Continue Reading →
Was That Spring I heard?
Deep in the earth I woke, I stirred. I said: "Was that the Spring I heard? For something called!" "No, no," they said; "Go back to sleep. Go back to bed. You're far too soon; The world's too cold For you, so small," So I was told. But how could I go back to sleep? I... Continue Reading →
Wordless Rainy Thursday
Okay. Maybe not wordless but it is raining, again, and it is Thursday. So,what does one do on the back porch when it is raining? Take pictures, of course! Aside from taking pictures of my rainy day, I did load the kiln to fire tomorrow. A glaze firing! I am looking forward to Sunday when... Continue Reading →
It’s Cucumber Season!
UPDATE: 24 Hours Later! Delicious! Family says 'not quite Claussen but close!" In other words, they are a hit! Taking a short break from pottery today to make pickles. I do not like canning in the late summer because, well, it's just too hot! So I have been searching for "easy" refrigerator pickle recipes and... Continue Reading →

SNAKE!
Okay, yes. The title of this post is a little dramatic but are not snakes dramatic when you are not expecting them. So, I'm blissfully throwing pots on my back porch today when I notice our cat following something through the yard. I didn't think anything too much about it because, after all, it is...
