It’s That Time of Year

Post below dusted off, updated, and reposted. Enjoy! The more things change, the more they stay the same. ~Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr In my all years of selling my pottery on line, difficulties with USPS have been extremely rare. I hand over each parcel to our friendly neighborhood USPS with care and track each piece to... Continue Reading →

Reflections

As I was attempting to summarize my thoughts on this past year and the new year, the following words from my morning readings came into focus: Teachable spirit Listening heart Speak less Fear is bigger than the fail Stories have power to teach and inspire HE is active in our story A shared story  God... Snapshots of Christmas Past

Life is made up of moments and if we're lucky to have a camera near, we snap! Click on an individual picture below to start a slide show and read captions. "When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions - give off the greatest glow of happiness."... Continue Reading →

Winter Solstice

The first day of the Winter Solstice ~ the shortest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. Chilly but no snow today. A sigh of relief and joy as parcels and packages have reached their destinations! I've made my lists and I'm checking them twice, three times and more! The house is quiet.... Continue Reading →

Waiting Is The Hardest Part

In my seventeen years of selling my pottery on line, difficulties with USPS have been extremely rare. I hand over each parcel to our friendly neighborhood USPS with care and track each piece to it's new home! (Really, they are so helpful and friendly! They are the best!) This month, however, several parcels are seemingly... Continue Reading →

Nesting In An Empty Nest

Change. Adult children. Changing holiday traditions. Adjust. All things new again. In the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. Kahlil Gibran

Rest, Reflect and Restore

365 days behind me. Joys. Sorrows. Accepting all. Gratitude. Boldly and bravely stepping into a New Year. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

‘Tis The Season

A steady stream of orders since Thanksgiving. Each piece of my handmade pottery securely wrapped and boxed. Shipping labels printed. Boxes secured. Tracking numbers noted and sent to each customer. Then off to the post office. Unboxing and unpacking Christmas decorations. A sense of nostalgia of Christmases past. Trying to remember where Christmas gifts are... Continue Reading →

No Diets

Happy Thanksgiving! "What we're really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?" Erma Bombeck

Tooting My Horn! Happy New Year!

It is official. I am completely sold out. 😳 All of my pottery pieces found new homes in 2022! 🥳 Meanwhile, I am enjoying a few of my handmade kitchen prep bowls and wine glass that had slight imperfections such as cracked bottoms or a glaze snafu. These imperfections don't happen often but when they... Continue Reading →

December

We have survived husband's first year of retirement!  His retirement started off with a bang when we both came down with covid this time last year.   I barely remember last December but we have pictures to prove that we, indeed, celebrated Christmas. Wow! The lawn and building a new deck kept husband busy spring... Continue Reading →

Onward

Oh my! A new year! I'm almost afraid to ask the cosmos . . . "Now what?" So, I will not ask. Instead, I will turn my attention to my list of things "To Do" before spring. Top on my list is to sort through all the extra things we have acquired due to my... Continue Reading →

Take Time

The falling leaves gather around my pottery wheel. My throwing days have come to an end for the year. The temperatures have dropped quite dramatically this week making it a challenge to photograph my pottery on my back porch. "They" say it may snow this weekend! This month I have been busy with many behind... Continue Reading →

A Message from BackPorchStudio

2020 has definitely been a challenge for me as well as so many other people. I lost my Mom in June. I lost my Mother-in-law in September. And I lost Missy Kitty in October. Though social media and blogging took a backseat, I have been blissfully busy filling orders @ etsy.com/shop/BackPorchStudio My inventory is low.... Continue Reading →

Happy New Year!

Instead  I decided to make daily resolutions or, as some may call them, daily affirmations.  Daily resolutions are much less daunting. The intent is for the day rather than for a WHOLE year.  Think about that . . .a WHOLE year. That is 365 days!

I do set long term goals such as eating healthier, exercising more, getting more sleep and not swearing (as much) but these goals need tweaking through the year because, as we all know, LIFE happens – circumstances beyond our control; so daily resolutions can be tweaked to suit fluid life situations.

Tweaking daily resolutions requires learning how to forgive yourself when a resolution has not been met.  It is far too easy to fall into…

Before and After

After a lot of hard work dealing with unusual grog particles in my clay over the summer, I am happy to report not all was a loss! Tickled with the glaze results in these two turquoise & brown mugs! Just listed in my shop, back porch studio, on Etsy!

‘Tis The Season!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I love that some of  my pottery pieces are going to new homes! Also on Etsy. . . I can vouch for each shop.  I have shopped at each one. Wonderful products! Wonderful people!
