Ta-dah!

The sunflowers made it despite the critters of early spring and summer. This pot houses my 3rd round of sunflowers. I decided not to transplant them to the back yardand keep them close to my back porch. Glorious results! Close up of the potted sun flowers next to the back porch. Such a sunny delight!... Sunflowers Maybe

Who doesn't love sunflowers? Creatures big and small love sunflowers! I started planting sunflowers early spring all to have a creature eat every last sunflower seed! I suspect a squirrel. Photo by Juhasz Imre on Pexels.com I planted another round sunflower seeds. Thrilled to see them sprout to six to twelve inches in height!  Yeah!... Continue Reading →

UPDATE

While technology continues not to be my friend, I continue to shoot and throw things! The good news is that the company we sent our external hard drive too expects to be able to retrieve our data with 78% certainty in which my photos are HIGH priority, 78% doesn't sound too optimistic but I am... A View From My Back Porch

I usually don't complain about the weather unless it is cold. I do not like being cold. If it is below 70 degrees, that's it.  I'm complaining. This spring, however, I find myself complaining about the lack of sun light. Over the winter, I yearned for bright spring sunny days but so far we have... Continue Reading →

Throwing Things!

I have been doing a lot of throwing lately thanks to the good weather we have had this summer. I am currently working on new inventory for my Etsy store including mugs, platters and larger pet bowls! By the end of September 2017, I will start adding the new inventory to my shop. For updates,... Continue Reading →

It’s Cucumber Season!

UPDATE: 24 Hours Later! Delicious! Family says 'not quite Claussen but close!" In other words, they are a hit!  Taking a short break from pottery today to make pickles.  I do not like canning in the late summer because, well, it's just too hot!  So I have been searching for "easy" refrigerator pickle recipes and... Oh Grog!

This year's throwing season seems to be going well!  Very minimal mistakes plus, thanks to learning about an alternative way to take large pots off the bat, I have been able to throw larger pieces: plates, serving bowls, platters and pet bowls!  To date, I have thrown over 35 pieces since Memorial Day! 😀 Unfortunately, I'm... New: Organic Bowls

My newest pieces: organically shaped bowls made from a slab of clay slumped over a plaster mold.  They are becoming my favorite to make.  I can roll out a slab of clay, slump it over a plaster mold, walk away to do something else! Within 20 to 30 minutes, the clay has dried out just... Continue Reading →

At A Snail’s Pace

I wish I could say summer 2016 is going at a snail's pace but it is not.     It is hard for me to believe the end of July is upon us.   Next thing you know it will be Christmas!   That said, a lot has been happening in and around the back... Continue Reading →

An Element of Surprise

As any potter will tell you there is always an element of anticipation and surprise when you open the kiln after a glaze firing. A couple of weekend ago I glazed and loaded the kiln.  I tried a few new glaze combinations; some I liked and others I didn't and will not do again! (I'm... Continue Reading →

Watching Clay Dry

Is watching clay dry as exciting as watching paint dry or grass grow?   Believe it or not I have done all three. WATCHING CLAY DRY WATCHING GRASS GROW While the clay dries, I look out to our yard. The lush green grass (and clover) inspires me to practice taking pictures of, well, grass. A... Continue Reading →

Finally, a productive day!

Warmer weather has arrived which means I was able to play in the mud this weekend! Had time to play, too! Now it is time for some garden fresh strawberries with whipped cream (from a can)! Summer is here!

A Strawberry Kind Of Day

It's beginning to look and feel a lot like summer. 🙂 We picked about two pounds of strawberries from our strawberry patch this morning! Delicious!

Productive Potter , After All

This is BIG!!  I threw 17 pieces over the three day weekend: dishes, plates, bowls, cups and pet bowls. Could I be a productive potter after all?  My next step is to bisque fire these pieces after they completely air dry. Given how humid it has been, air drying will take a while. I'm figuring... Summer in Full Swing

This summer is filled with sandboxes, wading pools and playing with dump trucks with our first grandchild! Needless to say pottery has taken a back seat.  Oh I'm still throwing!  My production is just not as quick this summer as in past summers. Sales on Etsy are going strong.  In fact, I just finished an... Continue Reading →
