Look Up

The calendar says it is October but summer is still here! Temperatures in the 90's. Shadows growing longer. Warm breeze. Dragon flies dart about. My eyes and soul can not get enough of the these clear blue skies and white puffy clouds. And falling to sleep to the sound of crickets and katydids in October... Continue Reading →

Shooting The Moon

I learned a lot about shooting the moon. The Harvest Moon illuminated night sky the weekend of September 13, 2019. So, I grabbed my camera and tripod. The sky was not 100% clear on Friday night but thought the clouds added drama.   I was disappointed, however,  to see that my photographs were not as... Continue Reading →

UPDATE

While technology continues not to be my friend, I continue to shoot and throw things! The good news is that the company we sent our external hard drive too expects to be able to retrieve our data with 78% certainty in which my photos are HIGH priority, 78% doesn't sound too optimistic but I am... Wordless Rainy Thursday

Okay. Maybe not wordless but it is raining, again, and it is Thursday. So,what does one do on the back porch when it is raining? Take pictures, of course! Aside from taking pictures of my rainy day, I did load the kiln to fire tomorrow. A glaze firing! I am  looking forward to Sunday when... Continue Reading →

Enough Rain

At last, the sun shines today! The forecast, however, is calling for MORE RAIN over the next 10 days! Sigh. I'm growing tired of grey days and rain.

A Camera, A Pencil, and A Little Creativity

I participated in my first Creativity Challenge in my photo class where I was to apply what I have learned. We were to choose one simple every day object and take five different shots to tell a story. I chose a pencil . . . . * * *

Fast Forward to April

It's spring ya'll! I've been a little short on words lately but that is not to say nothing is going on. Over the winter I: took a hand-building pottery class took an excellent on-line photography class read all of the books I received for Christmas reviewed my glazing notes to try to solve glazing problems... Time Differences

Yes, there are time differences between countries, states and cities, but I've noticed time  differences affect photography. The outside light changes through the day.  You may not notice the vast difference in light as the day proceeds, but through a camera lens that light difference is magnified! Pictured below is one of my newest stoneware... Continue Reading →

New Project: Nesting Bowls

I have been working on nesting bowls this week.  Each bowl is made from a slab of clay draped over clay molds I made last winter. It has taken me several tries to work out all the kinks in the process. The third time worked like a charm! After these air dry, they will undergo... Continue Reading →

Black & White

I was happy to accept the Life in Black and White challenge.  At first, I thought it would be hard but I found that taking a picture of the simplest things made the biggest impact in black and white.

New Clay! Great Things!

Just when I was ready to throw in the towel early this month due to groggy clay , I decided to talk to the folks at my local pottery supply store to see if they could recommend a new clay body similar to what I had been using for over ten years. I am SO happy... Continue Reading →

Summer Not Yet Over!

Though the calendar says it is autumn, Mother Nature says otherwise!  I am thrilled by the warm dry autumn days because  I can continue to throw pots on my back porch! Most recently, I have been working on plates.   I have been using a certain mid-fire cone 6 clay for over 10 years and... Continue Reading →

Today was Moving Day!

This is an annual move from the basement to the back porch.  Luckily, this year I didn't have too many loads to lug up the stairs (12 steps).  My pottery wheel stayed under wraps on the back porch over the winter.  I was happy to unwrap it, clean it off and set it up! So... Continue Reading →
